How Leaders Stay Motivated And How You Can, Too

Have you ever had a moment where nothing seems to help get you into the groove? You may find that every little thing is more important than the task at hand, and you’re easily sidetracked? That would be a lack of motivation – when procrastination becomes your new best friend.

LEADERS CREATE THEIR OWN MOTIVATION

Let’s explore motivation. Motivation refers to why we do what we do. It’s a question each of us must ask ourselves: In acting as a leader in life, “How do I remain motivated and do I motivate my team or tribe?” Another way to ask that question is to ask, “What gives my life meaning?”

The big question remains: How do we keep ourselves motivated? Here are a few of the techniques that are highly impactful and often used by leaders of all makes:

1. MAKE TIME TO REFLECT

Successful leaders take time to reflect on decisions and actions. How much in business and life do we all miss out on because we don’t take the time to reflect on what is happening in our lives and what we can learn from these things? If you rush through your life, you’re missing out on going deeper into your own creativity and where all the ideas are born.

2. HAVE A VISION AND SEEK OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH

Set milestones and create a strategy for growth and profit, and make sure you form the best YOU and embrace it. I hope you’ll form a solid foundation and healthy habits to support your new growth strategy.

All of these will work only if they are built upon your vision. Have a futuristic vision first, and then your focus on the milestones will be easier. Goals are important but not as important as the vision is. Ask yourself:

How do I want to live an impactful life?
What are my values?
What would I regret not doing in life?
Am I dreaming big enough?
What am I afraid of?

Some people are so caught up with day-to-day tasks that they forget to dream about the future. As a result, they don’t aspire high enough or far enough, for themselves or their organizations. Keep the questions flowing, and ask yourself next:

What do I dream of accomplishing in my life?
In my career?

3. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH INSPIRATION

Mirror those who are successful around you – find role models worthy of your attention, those who lead their lives and organizations in the manner in which you aspire to lead, who have made a difference to others as you would like to.

4. MENTOR SOMEONE ELSE

This one is my personal favorite! One of the best ways to distill what you know is to share it with others. You may be surprised how much you have to give, and how empowering sharing can be to helping you realize your milestones and expertise. Moreover, helping another person grow can be a rewarding way to keep yourself motivated.

5. STOP ENTREPRENEURIAL A.D.D.

Instead of looking into time management, look into energy management. Work smarter not harder. Hustle is a common process in our mostly busy culture – a misconception that you must stay busy to reach success – but success takes time. There is no overnight success. Success is comprised of small steps – your blog traffic increasing, your sales improving, your engagement rate goes up. Don’t ignore these small moments of success – celebrate them. Remember: the most important gift you can give yourself is to just keep going and keep on building your empire and legacy.

6. ARE YOU BORED?

If you are finding yourself constantly bored, this is often a sign of needing to dig deep within to rediscover the foundation of your life. Take time for some much needed introspection. Your life can start to feel shallow. Our actions are more than just an attempt to keep everything in control, looking pretty and nice. Fueled by the energy of a life in transformation, our actions become powerful expressions of courage and faith, further inspiring our own inner work and those around us.

7. BE OPEN TO CHANGE

Last but certainly not least, always: Know that it’s OK to rebrand, to update yourself. Your ideas are alive. They have energy. Feel them, embrace them, and grow them.
